چکیده
The use of information net primary productivity (NPP) from remote ocean color sensors is increasingly common in marine sciences. resulting has been used to explain variations at different spatio-temporal scales and the presence climate phenomena, such as El Niño Southern Oscillation, global warming. Satellite sensing data were analyzed Bahía de La Paz (BLP), Mexico, determine variation NPP. In addition, situ hydrographic obtained characterize water properties bay. satellite agree with measurements, validating observations over this region. NPP generally presented seasonal maximum values winter-spring minimum summer–autumn. variance explained by measured variables was ranked Chl-a < DEN SST PAR WSC. highest occurred when subtropical subsurface (SsStW) relatively shallow. Due divergence mixing processes, provided nutrients euphotic zone, consequently an increase changes plankton biomass observed. annual trends respect that similar; however, it necessary number validation studies. measurements allowed for main biophysical modulate time be identified. satellite-derived classifies BLP a high zone 432 g C m−2 year−1. satisfactory should incorporated into

Paralytic shellfish toxins in the chocolata clam, Megapitaria squalida (Bivalvia: Veneridae), in Bahía de La Paz, Gulf of California.
Occurrence and toxic profiles of paralytic shellfish toxins (PST) in the chocolata clam Megapitaria squalida were investigated. From December 2001 to December 2002, 25 clams were obtained monthly from Bahia de La Paz, Gulf of California. Additionally, net (20 microm) and bottle phytoplankton samples were also collected to identify toxic species. Toxins were analyzed by HPLC with post-column oxi...
متن کاملEffect of Mining Activities in Biotic Communities of Villa de la Paz, San Luis Potosi, Mexico
Mining is one of the most important industrial activities worldwide. During its different stages numerous impacts are generated to the environment. The activities in the region have generated a great amount of mining residues, which have caused severe pollution and health effects in both human population and biotic components. The aim of this paper was to assess the impact of mining activities ...
متن کاملSpatial and Temporal Variability and Drivers of Net Ecosystem Metabolism in Western Gulf of Mexico Estuaries
Net ecosystem metabolism (NEM) is becoming a commonly used ecological indicator of estuarine ecosystem metabolic rates. Estuarine ecosystem processes are spatially and temporally variable, but the corresponding variability in NEM has not been properly assessed. Spatial and temporal variability in NEM was assessed in four western Gulf of Mexico shallow water estuaries. NEM was calculated from hi...
متن کاملBloom of Gymnodinium catenatum in Bahía Santiago and Bahía Manzanillo, Colima, Mexico.
Gymnodinium bloom events are of concern, since they produce toxins, which have unfavorable consequences to marine ecosystems, human health and the economy. This report describes the physico-chemical conditions that were present during the algal bloom event on May 2010 in Bahía Manzanillo and Bahía Santiago, Colima, Mexico. For this, seawater nutrient analysis, phytoplankton counts, identificati...
متن کاملThe environmental hazard caused by smelter slags from the Sta. Maria de la Paz mining district in Mexico.
The noxious potential of metallurgical tailings from the Ag/Pb/Zn/Cu mining district of Sta. María de la Paz (Mexico) is ascertained via the chemical characterization of slag material. Batch experiments using various extraction solutions (e.g. natural rainwater, water rich in humic substances, ammonium nitrate solution) revealed information on the dissolution behaviour of the elements Fe, Mn, N...
